Lock Cells in Google Sheets

The use of lock cells in Google Sheets is very easy to do. You can add or delete any cell easily through the usual drop down menu on the cell. If you want to Lock in Google sheets, you just need to right click on the cell in the list of Google Sheets and then click on 'lock' or 'unlock'. This will remove the cell from your Sheet and make it inaccessible for anyone else to change it.

There are only two simple steps involved here. First, you have to go to the 'advanced settings' and click on the option 'locking columns and rows'. Then, you click on 'OK'. Google will display the details of the other changes that you made to your spreadsheet.

In the second step of the instructions above, you just need to click on the button 'Change column/row' and click on 'OK'. Once done, you will be asked to enter the number of the cell that you want to lock. You can either enter a new number or just leave the existing one unchanged. Then, the cell is locked.

There are other ways of locking sheets in Sheets. You may have noticed some spreadsheets that ask you to right click on the cells before accessing them. If you want to lock the sheets, just click on this option and enter a new password. This will secure the spreadsheets until you remember the password or until someone else accesses the same spreadsheets. Now, you cannot access the sheets anymore and they become protected.

Apart from locking a single sheet, you can also lock several spreadsheets in Sheets. If you want to lock the entire project, you just need to right click on the 'sheet' and choose 'lock' from its menu. You will then see the lock icon. If you want to lock all of the project, just open the same document, go to the options (options tab), click on'manage Project' and use the following options: name, permission to edit, time and date range and others.

Google has issued warnings to prevent the abuse of these features. If you do not want to see the warning message, you should never attempt to edit locked cells in Google Sheets. The warning is intended to notify you about the security risk of trying to edit the cells by any means other than the official Google tools. If you do try to edit the cells anyway, the changes will not be applied. Only the authorized user can change the values assigned to the cells. Learn more on how to lock cells in Google Sheets!
